How many galaxies are there in the Universe? Recent estimates tell us that there could be as many as two trillion galaxies in the observable Universe

It is estimated that there are between 200 billion (2×10¹¹) to 2 trillion galaxies in the observable universe. Most galaxies are 1,000 to 100,000 parsecs in diameter (approximately 3,000 to 300,000 light years) and are separated by distances on the order of millions of parsecs (or megaparsecs).

The latest data collected by NASA indicates that there are 3,916 solar systems within our Milky Way. This means there are 3,916 stars with planets orbiting them in our single galaxy. Also according to the latest data, there are 5,241 confirmed exoplanets, which are planets that exist outside our solar system.

The universe may be infinite, but we can only analyze a finite part of it (the part in which light has had time to reach us). As far as we can see, there are galaxies in every direction with no sign of slowing down. We've seen no sign of an edge of the universe.

There are about 51 galaxies in the Local Group (see list of nearest galaxies for a complete list), on the order of 100,000 in the Local Supercluster, and an estimated 100 billion in all of the observable universe.

Intergalactic travel is the hypothetical crewed or uncrewed travel between galaxies. Due to the enormous distances between the Milky Way and even its closest neighbors—tens of thousands to millions of light-years—any such venture would be far more technologically and financially demanding than even interstellar travel.
